H Wolfframm of Dresden - Baby Grand
Post by JuliainBrum »
Hi
We are trying to find out something about an H. Wolfframm baby grand. It was my mother's. She died recently. My father has asked us to find a good home for the piano. From a previous discussion about an H. Wolfframm it looks as though we should be starting by looking for a serial number? Would it be possible to advise us where we might find that?

As far as I am aware, no firm dates of their serial numbers are available, I have some estimates. I have no pictures showing where their grand numbers were located, but if you look inside the top of the piano, it should be there somewhere, perhaps under the music desk. There may also be references to years when Wolfframm received medals at exhibitions.
If you can upload any photos here, or email to me, they may help, but baby grands of the 1900s are notoriously difficult to date by appearance.
If your tuner feels it is safe to remove the action, it may be marked with the action makers' name and numbers, and I may be able to date this.
In the end. what you need is your tuner's report on its condition.

It might be shortly before 1910, otherwise I have answered further up the page. Without photos, it is difficult to comment.
