Kemble Upright Piano

Post by Jefner »

I have a Kemble Upright Piano, which has a plate with Patent 429809 on it and also on the sound board it has Schwader. What year might this piano have been manufactured and what would it be worth?

Unfortunately patent numbers do not reveal the age of a piano. You will need to find the serial number, usually near the tuning pegs (pins).

I think you meant SCHWANDER? - this is the company that made the mechanism (hammers etc)..... they made the mechanisms for many different makes of piano, not just Kemble.

We cant give valuations here - you will need to make an appointment with a piano tuner, who will need to inspect it, and tune it. However, Kemble are a reputable make, and rated reasonably highly.

If you upload some photos of the inside and outside of your piano I'll take a stab at a rough valuation for you. For an accurate valuation pay a local tuner £30-£60 to inspect it and write a report for you.
