Aucher Freres

Post by mchav »

Hello, I have an Aucher Freres Modele No1, serial no 13762. I've been told it's c1850. Is this correct. Not sure if this is the technical term but it has a wooden backing (instead of metal) and therefore, the sound can never be as refined as more modern pinos.

The short answer is no, the published dates of Aucher numbers are nonsense. I can find no evidence that any of them are right, they start before the firm was established, and I have never found a definite reliable date for an Aucher piano, but my estimate of this number would be 1874. If you could post some images here, or email to me, I may be able to tell you more. If you find any dates inside, do please let me know. Oddly, the only model I seem to hear about is Model 1. Have a look at the Aucher numbers at

Here is Michelle's photo of the Aucher pianino #13762, which I estimate at 1874. I hope to have more info on Aucher numbers at pianogen.org in the near future.
