Later Broadwood pianos
Post by lifesdetritis »
I have just acquired a Broadwood grand, serial number 265518 about 80" long, dating from about 1970. It is a really nice instrument - far nicer that a number of basic Yamaha grands that I have seen.
Are you able to give me any idea of where it was made, and by whom?! I was told that at one stage, Challen made them, and they possibly shared a workshop with Welmar in Wandsworth. Or were they all in it together? There seems also to have been a connection with Danemann. Any info gratefully received!
P.S. Do you know of any surviving Challen records from the mid 1930's on? Many thanks, Rob

I am not the best person for modern pianos, but don't worry, Broadwoods still exist as a company, and they can probably answer your question. There is a Broadwood page on this website, but you will probably have to phone them.
I tried for years to get archive material from Challens, they didn't have any, in fact I have more Challen info than they have! What sort of Challen info are you looking for?

Vivian's posting has been removed because...
1). We don't appreciate people pinching whole sections from other websites and calling it their own.
2). This is a piano history forum, we don't need anyone's help to tell us who Broadwood was.
We will consider allowing links to existing pages if they are approved.
