London and Liverpool piano
Post by fergietunes »
I have recently got a new piano. It was made by 'London and Liverpool Pianoforte Company', 30-32 Granby Street. It is a dark wood (not sure what) upright. It has the numbers 5689 stamped into the wood under the lid and the (?) cast iron frame has number 17 on it.
I would be grateful for any info on how old the piano may be and/or any history on the company.

The name first appears in our lists from the 1890s, and continued into the thirties, but did not survive the war. Some of the pianos were made by Monington & Weston, and some bear the stock numbers of Crane & Sons, London & Liverpool, preceded by C&S. I doubt they ever made pianos, they probably did what so many other dealers did, and put their name onto pianos bought in from anonymous wholesalers. Follow the link below for clues.
