Hello all,

I am wanting to buy a first digital piano, as an absolute beginner. Would this be a good choice....http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/3 ... face-.html

I don't want something to expensive to start with, but I don't really know what i'm looking for.

I'm not very familiar with the M-Audio keyboards but this newer 'sono' model is an absolute mystery. I read up on it on the weblink you provided and based in its USB connectivity and only 6/7 core sounds (not including the GM ones which again link in with playing back MIDI files) and its semi-weighted keyboard, it sounds more like a controller keyboard for interfacing with other instruments or music software although it does say that it can be used as a standalone keyboard.

If this is all you want to spend, then this might be a better option for you. Again, only semi-weighted keyboard action but better sounding that the M-Audio piano samples:

What do you want in your digital piano? Consider things like sound quality, keyboard action, portability if that is important. If you are learning piano, you would need a proper hammer action keyboard.

Thanks for the response. After visiting the shop and trying out this Piano, I realised that it wasn't what I was looking for. It felt 'cheap' compared to others that a tried.

I decided to blow my budget out of the water and settled on the Yamaha YDP-140 instead.....http://www.dawsons.co.uk/acatalog/info_3_00063181.html

Very happy with it.

On a side note, I am a total beginner and currently learning from books. Would you recommend maybe getting a few lessons a little later to have somebody check my technique, form etc?

You do get what you pay for with digital instruments, particularly when you go down to £200-300 bracket. The P-140 would be good but did you get a good deal? The P-140 has long since been replaced by the P-155 so you should have gotten some discount.

As for piano teachers, check the "Piano Teacher" tab on the left navigation bar. I think there are a few listings under Cheshire that may interest you.
