need advice on progressing in piano
Post by steelslasher »
i have been progressing pretty well in piano playing since i started almost two years ago. I have learnt 8 major scales, 2 minor scales and can play most major/minor arpeggios. There are somethings that i just cant teach myself, I want to know what piano excercises are good for improving speed and finger strength. Seeing as though i play on a keyboard speed will eventually come to me but finger strength wont as they keys arent weighted.
just to show how much i have progressed, the last piece i learnt and performed at school was http://www.herbalcell.com/sheets/zelda- ... labels.pdf, my schools head of music said i had potential to be a really good performer but i suppose i am going to need a lot of practice before that happens
could you guys suggest ways for me to improve, things i would like to improve are speed and ability to form chord positions quickly (like quickly moving between a CM chord to a Gm chord)

Re: need advice on progressing in piano
Have you been using inversions of chords as opposed to relying solely on chords from the route position?
For example, Cmaj7 from the route position would be: C E G B
You can invert the chord by changing the order of the notes: E G B C, G B C E, B C E G (this one is irregular). As I listened to part of the recordinging, there does seem to be some reliance on arpeggiating inversions of the chords so this would be an important skill, particularly if you are playing by ear.
