Aching back

Hello.

I have started to play the piano recently and I am trying to keep good posture, but my back is aching in the middle vertically on one side, is this just getting used to the posture for playing and my muscles getting used to it? As far as I can tell, my sitting posistion is fine.

Thanks for any help.

Ollie

Are you sure you aren't sitting to high? That's what makes my back ache. What does your teacher say? I was always taught that elbow, wrist and knuckles should be all at the same level if possible. Different teachers say different things. You could always consult an Alexander Technique teacher, particularly one with musical specialisation.

Hi

It could be your chair....Make sure your not too close to the piano and equally not too far back. Maybe do some shoulder exercises before going to play. Roll your shoulders back and forth a few times.

Make sure you are comfortable, and that your back is straight as though you are trying to stand tall but are sitting down, but don't TENSE UP, just try to practice getting your body set up like this.
Also make sure your arms and neck are relaxed. Avoid getting nervous or anxious whilst playing as this also could be making your back hurt.

GOOD LUCK with learning piano. Hope this helps!
