The battery referred to is the backup battery for the memory, which is soldered into the main DM board. Once this goes, all memory, including the voices, is lost. You need to get the battery replaced (call Yamaha for details of someone local who may be able to do this and for the battery (part number VB436900) - Tel. 01908 369213). Once the new battery is fitted, you need to reload the original voices. The DX7's came with voice cartridges, one of which had the factory voice set on it. If you don't have any cartridges, try google. You may be able to get a secondhand cartridge (your DX 7 is a Mark II, but cartridges for the DX7 mark1 will also work with an ADP1 cartridge adaptor) or find someone who could load a voice set onto a floppy disk for you (providing the drive still works - a replacement may still be available - part number NX819410 ). Another option would be to try and find MIDI file downloads. These will be bulk dumps, so you need a sequencer (hardware or software) of some sort to load them into the DX - try
http://www.synthzone.com/yamaha.htm for some options.
If you need an owner's manual, this can be downloaded from
