Piano parts wanted - mahogany pieces

Post by Pianomate »

Hi. I'm struggling to find some bits of wood for my square piano restoration. The front bottom section under they keyboard is badly damaged and I am looking for some antique mahogany to replace it. It's not actually veneer but approx 3mm thick, and the section runs cross-grain so grain-wise it only needs to be 4 inches along the grain.

The entire damaged section is about 3ft long but it is made up of small pieces typically 4 inches wide. Therefore even a number of pieces 4 inches square would be ideal.

If you have anything at all I would appreciate it. I can reduce any thickness down to what I want as a friend is a cabinet maker.

The timber merchants do not stock these timbers nowadays due to environmental concerns so my only hope is something off a scrapped antique.

PS I also have a friend looking for a square piano to fix up so please let me know if you see one.

Many thanks.

I had considered that but I am trying to make it authentic. I'm after a few lumps of mahogany which I can reduce down.

Brown furniture is v. cheap at the mo; look in the local auctions or ebay for a knackered wardrobe or sideboard. Or a local salvage place might be able to help.
I play for my own amazement... :piano;
