Denholm & S....omething?

Post by Gill the Piano »

Wondered if you had any info on Denholm & ? piano dealers, probably Scottish. I know it's vague but it's all I have to go on. German O/D action in S/S upright, possibly 1915ish, number 14***. Any help - and I know it's unlikely1 - gratefully recieved!

Could it be Denham & Sons, London? Previously Parfitt & Denham.

No, it was definitely Denholm & the second name began with S. Probably just a retailer though. Long shot! :D

Denholm & Stevens, often seen on older modernised case pianos there is a Scottish connection,to my knowledge Denholm was the technician and Stevens the cabinet restorer and polisher, seen a few over the years mostly cottage style vertical strungs and some over overs, where never particularly good instruments.

Thanks, Joe; I was trying to pinpoint an age for the client - I reckoned around 1915-20 with a modernised case. Had a German action in, though, which surprised me.

I can't find them on any of our national lists, and unfortunately, some of the twentieth-century lists require me to know the town in advance. If anyone out there can suggest where we can get funding for twentieth-century history, we'll employ staff to work on it!

There was Denholm & McKay in Worcester, 1928.

Be interesting to know if the Chinese and their wholesalers are keeping serial numbers, with so many retro brands appearing would suspect not.
