Kaps, Dresden

Post by tj1743 »

Hi there, I have a piano to sell and as i know absolutely nothing about them even though my mum used to make me go to lessons which hasn't helped. If i can describe it as half oval, 3 legs, heavy. Inside is a large metal plaque with the following wording on it in this order,
Resonator = Piano
Von
Kaps in Dresden
Deutsches = Reichs
Patent
Von 14th July 1878
No 4142
Can anyone help to identify this machine, it is in complete condition and very restorable. There is also some writing in a foreign language undre the strings. Can a picture be posted on here, if so how?

This is presumably by Ernst Kaps of Dresden. The 1878 patent date means the piano was made after that date, but perhaps not too many years after. If you can find a serial number inside the top, we may be able to date the piano, but Victorian pianos have little value here in the UK. I have no idea how to post a picture, few people succeed, and it is easier to email it to me.

Hi Bill, Sorry for the delay in response, I will have a look for a serial number and also e-mail you a picture. Thanks Trevor.
