Casio PX / CDP

Post by grex4 »

I'm actually shopping for a Casio PX-120 OR a CDP-200. Both are at approximatly the same price, except where I live. I'm new to pianos so I don't really get the difference between the two.

If anyone can help me, I have the Specs Links
CDP : http://www.costco.ca/Browse/Product.asp ... lang=en-CA
PX : http://www.provantage.com/casio-px120~7CASS1KY.htm

I have been recommanded the PX by some people, but I can't find a PX-120 in Canada, so the shipping is at like 200$, which is overpriced for a 500$ piano. Should I just get a CDP or the PX is better?

Thanks for reading my post and please help me!

Hi!

I would go with the PX-120. I tried one of those out recently and was surprised by the hammer action keyboard and the price range. I still personally prefer the Yamaha hammer action but Casio is offering something decent for less money.

If I'm not very much mistaken, the CDP is an older model. It does have a heavy keyboard response but has less polyphony. On the other hand, it does have many other voices but personally, I have never been all that fussed on Casios minor voices. Current piano samples are now at a good standard but everything else remains mediocre and.... well fake!

I just bought the PX-120 at Costco here in Canada as a beginners piano and was very pleased with it... for 2 days. For some reason 22 of the 88 keys have gone silent. If tech support can get it working without seeing it then I'll be keeping it despite this glitch but otherwise I plan to return it to the store ASAP. It is a nice machine and definitely what we needed for the price but I would caution you to check it over carefully as soon as you get it home (if you go with this model).

Was it brand new?

The keyboard will have a warranty so you should be entitled to a replacement model or free service. It sounds as if the keyboard may well have been knocked around prior to your buying it.
