Upgrade ! My son can't do crescendos on his digital piano

It doesn't have the weight when you depress the keys and perhaps I need one where there are pedals now. His piano teacher said to buy a yamaha digital piano - but which one???? Please help!

Is her playing a portable keyboard or something?

What model is he using for practice?
