Best place for spares and accessories

Post by Harpsichordvalley »

Hi,
Please could you tell me where you all shop for your spares? ie punchings, wire. And can you recommend a chromatic digital tuner?

Thanks

Korg OT-120 is a multi temperament tuner which will sound a reference pitch for each note, cost around £90. I have the older OT-12 model and its absolutely brilliant, much better than the ones with just a needle and a couple of left and right LEDs. Because of the way they pick up pitches, most reactive meters (i.e.silent ones) wave the needle around all over the place, so its impossible to tune accurately. But it is so much easier tuning to a reference pitch and listening to beats, or should I say the lack of beats in the case of the OT tuners.

I was tuning up my daughter's harp at a concert a few weeks ago, and noticed the timpanist tuning his "rig" with a needle only type, so I wandered over and showed him the Korg. Don't think he needs the temperaments though - imagine timpani tuned in meantone!

Our harpsichord and spinet both sound fantastic in meantone.

Hope this helps.

You will need a better tuner than a simple chromatic digital tuner to tune pianos. As for piano parts the supply houses are listed on the site but you will have to set up an account if you want one of the UK ones and it is normally trade only
