Can anyone help me??

Post by xxxrachixxx »

I have just got given a piano by my nan as she didn't want it anymore and knows that I always have wanted one! It was delivered today by the piano removal people, but when I tried to play it LOADS of the keys don't make a sound! I have no idea whats the matter with it. She had it tuned about a month ago. I have never had a piano and don't know anything about the mechanics of them all, so I don't know what to do. I am so disappointed because I really wanted to play it! :( Does anyone think they know what the problem might be?
Thanks

Where abouts do you live? I'm sure the guys here can find someone who can come and help in your area.

Assuming it's an upright, it might have been tipped on end to get it through a doorway etc and something come out of alignment.

Remove the upper front board (front panel above the keyboard - there are two swivel clips at either side at the back of it). Remove the lower front board (clip under keyboard). Lift the fallboard and upper sill off the keys. You should probably be able to work out what's wrong. It could be part of the pedal mechanism come off and jammed. Check all the linkages from the pedals and make sure they are all together and aligned. If you can't work it out, call a piano technician. Don't try and force anything as may of the parts are fragile.

You could always email me a photo of the piano with the boards off so I can see the insides.

Hey thanks for replying, I live in Medway in Kent. I looked in the yellow pages and can't find anyone that does repairs in medway. I wouldn't want to attempt to take anything apart myself, I don't even have a screwdriver! lol! I really should get one...
By the way it is an upright piano.

Phone your nearest music teacher or school and ask them who they get to tune their pianos.
