Challen Player Piano

Post by sareceey »

I am new to this forum and I know very little about pianos. My first question is "What is the history on this piano?". Can anyone tell me what the estimated value is? The piano is a "CHALLEN" made in London in 1804. It is a player piano. I have not been able to get any info about this piano. I do not know where to find the model or serial # or I would give it to you. Thank You in advance for any information you can provide.

on the frame of challen pianos it says established in 1804 - thats when the firm was founded, not when the piano was made.

Sometimes under the keys (you'll have to lift some of them out) there is a piece of paper glued on to the bottom of the keybed which has some info including the date the piano was completed.

Why don't you post pics of the piano?

It is not possible to tell anything from the name alone, the firm dates back to 1804, and includes modern pianos. Player Pianos did not exist until about 1903. Have a look at the Datemarks page at www.PianoGen.org

Nobody anywhere can tell you the value without inspecting it on the spot.
