R. Lipp & Sohn, Stuttgart, London

While I was in Australia last month, my Aunt and Uncle had bought a brand new R.Lipp & Sohn upright piano. It was a LU-122CS model. I'd never heard of this model or yet the manufacturer beforehand but I have to say it was a pleasure to play. Very responsive keyboard action with a mellow, but not dull, tone. Absolutely beautiful.

Has anyone else come across these pianos? I bought a brand new Yamaha P121 a year ago, and after playing the Lipp & Sohn, I think I may have made an error of judgement. The P121 has a rather hard and heavy keyboard response, almost making it too much work to play. Does anyone know what I mean. Can this be adjusted by a tuner or is it just the way the P121 is designed?

the old lips can be very nice pianos the only thing I hate about them is the dampers they are on a 2 screw rocker which is a pain

in a word "yes" but is depends on the tuners I would say it may have not been prepared in the shop.

I was making some enquries myself about R.Lipp & Sohn. They seem to be based in Australia and are currently pushing into Europe and USA with their products. They truly are wonderful pianos - the new ones anyway.

Oz was fantastic. Weather nothing great but it was their Winter time. Had a blast! Found myself starting to talk like a ozzy by the time I was ready to leave! Mind you, was a bit shocked at first. They use F*** and B****** like an everyday conversation word. Apparently it doesn't carry the same gravity of meaning as it would say here in UK so it could equate "idiot" or "mate" depending on who is talking to you and they context!

Mind you, today's expletives often evolve into tomorrow's everyday speech. I expect by the time I retire it will be quite acceptable for the monarch to appear on TV at Christmas and announce to the nation that despite it being a f****** awful year economically the long-term prospects for the country are far from complete b******* and provided we don't behave like complete c**** everything should be f****** great.

My daughter has a beautiful R.Lipp & Sohn Baby Grand piano and the sound is absolutely wonderful. She has great difficulty getting her piano tuner to leave as he simply loves playing it once he has finished the tuning and is always trying to buy it from her. We are not certain of its age but it would appear to be reletively old with the leg carvings and music stand fretwork, any ideas on finding its age ?

Yes I know about Lipp and Sohn pianos as I bought one a few months ago. I am thrilled with my piano. It is an upright with a lovely black polish. The tone is really lovely. The company headquarters is in Adelaide, but the pianos are made in China.

Interesting. I’d like to try one. Looks like they are only available in Australia and New Zealand for the time being.
