My parents had this piano in the 1960's for me to learn on.
I had thought that it was new then but someone thought it was made in the 1890's.

Any ideas on date of manufacture and possible value?
I have read the comments on valuations and appreciate it will only be a guess.

I thought my comments made it quite clear that guessing is not an option. Ask your local tuner. As for Salvini, he does not appear on any of our numerous London lists as a real maker, I can only guess that the piano was made shortly before the 1914 war. Most twentieth-century pianos were made in huge factories with hundreds of employees, but there were still some tiny cottage industries operating in sheds in back gardens. These often left no trace of their existence, and it is certainly difficult to find them by actively looking.
The only maker I am aware of in Carlton Road is Strickland. Have a look at the Datemarks page at www.PianoGen.org
There is also a page there on the impossibility of valuation.
