Easy Beethoven sonatas?

Post by emmac »

Please can anyone suggest any easy(ish) Beethoven sonatas for me to try? I'm about grade 6 and am currently mangling the Pathetique. I'm trying to sight-read my way through others to see if i can cope with them but it could take me forever... Has anyone got any suggestions for which sonata I could mangle next? (Preferably from Vols 1 or 3 as my daughter's appropriated vol 2) Thanks

There's a two-movement one in G which is easy - maybe too easy if you're Grade VI, but although the notes are easy the interpretation and atriculation will keep you busy if you want to play it well.

As Gill says, there's the two Op 49 sonatas. Op 14 No 2 is generally relatively easy, but as with all Beethoven, there are some difficult passages in the outer movements. Early, middle and late Beethoven is difficult, but great for building musicality and technique. Haydn, rather than Mozart, will help the approach to Beethoven - and some of Haydn's sonatas are wonderful.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't thought of trying Haydn: I've never played any of his work (!) but will dig some out and have a go.
