Alfred Hitchcock's Piano
Post by bobmeister357 »
I have a piano that was supposedly owned by Alfred Hitchcock. Aside from that, I'd just like to know as much as I can about the piano itself. At the top it has a plaque that says "Manufactured Expressly For J. Philipson and Sons, North Shields and Tynemouth". Under that it says:
"Ct. Central Depot Patent / Steam Works / 62 & 64, Hampstead Rd. / Ferdinand Place. N.W. / London". And then it has those two circular medals that say "Invention Music 1885 International Inventions Exhibition" and "Victoria Regina". If anyone can tell me anything about it I would really appreciate it.

Philipson was a dealer, I'll see what I can find in him, his address suggests something before the 1914 war. The Medals link at www.pianogen.org will help you to understand those, which will be both sides of the same medal, and although we have no maker's name, the address suggests Burling & Burling around the 1880s, but obviously after the 1885 exhibition.

Well thank you, that's already more information than I had, haha. An other info you have is more than welcome, although I don't want you going out of your way. Thanks again.
