Lyon Upright Piano

Post by argon0 »

We've been offered an upright Piano today, by a couple who we are thinking of buying a house off...

The piano seems to be a Lyon, and has two brass candlestick holders on the front. It apparently has an Iron frame.

The keyboard lid has only a single hinge.

I'm not sure how many keys it has. But the keys do seem to be ivory. (at least they appear to be "yellowed" in the way I'd expect ivory to be).

On the front of the upright is, what looks like, a lion with his front paw raised up on something round (a drum?, a log?).

My Girlfriend took note of the name (Lyon) but can't remember seeing Healy or Halls on it.

The sound seemed (to my untutored ear) fine.

Is this enough info to tell how much, if anything, we should consider offering for the piano?

Also can you tell, from this, roughly how old it is likely to be?

Thanks all

No. Get a local tuner to look at it.

Old. Earlier than 1900 in all probability.
