Arthur Allison Butterfly Piano

Post by conniegiles »

I am looking for info on this piano. I can get more details but now I know it's Arthur Allison Adams butterfly style piano, yew wood, London Exhitition 1885, awards medal, with bench. Piano has pictures all over.
Can you help? Thanks,

Connie

When you say "Butterfly" do you mean the shape, or the style of inlaid design? A Butterfly grand has the top split in two, hinged in the middle. The references to exhibition medals are common, and appeared on thousands of pianos. See the Medals link at pianogen.org

There is a faint possibility that I tune that very piano. If you want more details, send me a private message. It has pseudo-Regency vignettes painted on the side panels in oval shapes on a yew/satinwood background. Unfortunately it's only tuned once in a blue moon, but I may still have the details somewhere in the chaos that is my filing system...
I think the piano once belonged to Joan Last who wrote piano instruction books, but I might be confusing it with a different piano.
