John Spencer
Hello from NZ. I have stumbled across this great site while trying to find out anything for the John Spencer piano that has been in my husband's family for ??years, and now is in our lounge. Would love to know an age, I have found only one number, inside (pressed into the timber, and the last 3 numbers are also on the inside of the front panel,) 62464. It is such a lovely exterior timber, very pretty. Sadly the candleholders have dissappeared, though the sconce (?) parts are still on the front panel. Any help would be very very much appreciated, thanks in advance.

the number 62464 = c1915 However, John Spencer numbers can be out as much as 4 years so it is more like 1919

The term "sconce" applies to the protruding candleholders, not the brackets. Spencer numbers are confirmed as correct at 1909, and this one probably is 1915, although the war will have made the dates a little vague, plus the usual problems with dating pianos generally.
