Sorry, I cannot ABIDE music - live or otherwise - when I'm out for a meal/drink/four-day binge session. I find myself subconsciously working out the chord sequences and eventually I can't focus on any conversation at all. I'd sooner have a list of restaurants and pubs which had no music whatsoever.

A friend of mine got into trouble after repeatedly asking the single cell organism that passed for a waiter if he could possibly turn down the recorded crap a little - maybe just enough to allow our ears to stop bleeding into the soup.
After getting nowhere for about half an hour he eventually cut the cables of the speaker nearest our table. The surrounding diners all applauded but he was asked to leave. Still, it was well worth it for a bit of peace and quiet.

Can't see the point of having music in the background anywhere - jeez, next they'll be playing it in lifts.

You want to be a piano tuner at a concert all you hear is the unisons drifting in and out and its even worse if you tuned the thing

They now have directional speakers only the person in line of sight can hear the sound that comes out of them - they started life as a weapon in the US

The local Indian we visit and shall be visiting in a few hours had Barry Manilow in the background last week I ask for Indian music but the head waiter likes Barry Manilow and Elton but we will forgive the man as he keep a very good cellar

Ah yes, one can forgive almost anything if the contents of the cellar are good.

I have to play recordings of Indian music for GCSE Music classes and it requires an almost superhuman effort on my part not to abandon the class, run down to town and fill my face with king prawn vindaloo and pints of Cobra at the first sound of the sitar. By the end of the track I'm sweating profusely and gripping the seat. A similar thing sometimes happens after the king prawn vindaloo....
