Woolley piano
Post by Nick Sibbett »
We have an upright piano with the 'Woolley' name on the front. It looks like a mass-produced one, and might be 1930s. It used to belong to great-Aunt Minnie who died about ten years ago, so we don't actually know how old it is.
There are no Woolley pianos on the internet! It has a serial number on it; in fact two numbers pressed into the wood. One is 8147 and the other, printed upside down, is 20006.
Has anyone heard of a Woolley piano? Or is it just a random name added at sometime during its life (I HAVE looked at Bill Kibby's website!!)
Grateful thanks

The vast majority of piano names are not listed on the internet. There was a firm called Woolley in Nottingham, they exhibited at the Great Exhibition in 1851, and were still around in 1911. I'll see what else I can find. Would this be a likely location? Dates of serial numbers are not available for this name.

That location looks just right, Bill. The family was in or near Nottingham for many decades. Thank you for your interest!
