Sterling Piano

We just picked up a Sterling piano that was free in the newspaper to whomever picked it up. It plays beautifully and inside it has the number in the center plate: 15041. On each side, the number 4666 is etched into the wood. It's a 42" and is a Practiano Equipped model. I am trying to date it and we are refinished it slowly. Someone painted it blue and white streaks. We have part of the refinishing done and it's just amazing.

I've looked on the serial number sites, and I can only find six digit numbers from 1934 on. I can find no other numbers and no data before 1934. Any suggestions?

Assuming that this is the Derby, Connecticut firm, the numbers suggest either just before 1885, or more likely 1894, but have a look at the Numbers link at pianogen.org

The "practicano", as well as the size, is a tip-off that this piano was probably made in the 1950's or early 1960's.
