J.B. Cramer & Co.

Post by cassenti »

Hello there! I'm researching the history of a piano that's been in my family for many years. I've found your website to be very helpful! It's a relatively small piano by J.B. Cramer & Co and on the inside it says 17495 in big characters. There is a fold-away music holder and holes in the front where candle holders used to be. We've always kept this as a piece of furniture, but I'm considering having it restored to be playable. It's in great condition physically - only a few broken parts. I've attached 2 pictures - I can't seem to find this logo for J.B. Cramer anywhere... all the pianos I see just say "Cramer."

I'd love to know what year it is from, if there's an estimated value to it, and any other unique information. Everyone that would know anything in my family has passed away and I've kept this piano for years just for it's beauty. Thank you in advance for you time!

The famous musician Johann Baptiste Cramer had a long history in the piano trade, but the modern ones are not really made by Cramer & Co., whereas the form of name on yours is the normal, quite common one for the real thing. No archive material survives, and the published dates of numbers are misleading. Are these phone pics? The quality is very poor, difficult to see any detail. Could you email me some better ones? Have a look at the valuation link at www.pianogen.org
