Yacht Piano

Post by cyril cowen »

Can anyone please help. I have a piano which I purchased from an elderly gent in the village about 50 years ago. He called it a "Yachting Piano"....which seemed a good name, as it differs from a normal piano, in that the keyboard folds UP into the front of the instrument, giving it a very narrow depth profile. When folded away, and the music rest folded away into the top of the piano, it really doesn't look much like a piano, and folks often ask what it is ? I think it must be c 100 yrs old. I play it regularly, and had it overhauled about 25 yrs ago. It keeps in good tune, and is in nice nick. I would appreciate any info regarding its possible origin, and also if it could be of any value. Thank you.

Yacht piano

Post by Bill Kibby »

There are several postings about Yacht pianos on this forum, and these are usually small upright pianos in which the keyboard is quite short, perhaps five octaves, and the keyboard folds away to save space. They are unusual and interesting, but not usually rare or valuable. Do you have any names and addresses on the piano?
