I was thinking along the lines of a new upright and my budget kind of puts me firmly in the Asian manufactured market :? . I am leaning towards Halle & Voight but any advice would be very helpful. Thanks!

Not my fave.

Gehr. Steinberg (and other identical but differently labelled Perzinas) or Yamaha b1 would be top of my list.

We have just started shopping around in the same price bracket. Halle & Voight were recommended to us as a reputable German (!) piano.

We've been quoted UKP1799 for a modern B1, UKP2599 for a traditional shape. We tried a Kingsburg (Pearl River or Yantai?) which was actually quite fun to play, but very bright.

We would appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks.

Halle & Voight are about as German as a new MG.

The Yamahas are the best in your selection, but a Brodmann would be a very good contender. For the price of a b2 you could bag a BU121 which is Yamaha U1 sized and a very 'grown-up' sounding piano.

The Kingsburg is Yantai-Longfeng from the old Perzina factory and diectly comparable to Halle & Voight. A piano from the current Perzina factory would be a better instrument. About 65% of the components in a new Perzina are now sourced in Europe.
