Twang-o-rama

Post by Openwood »

I might be imagining this (in which case I assume the next stage will be howling at the moon) but the B above middle-C on our grand piano seems to be making a faint twangy/buzzy sort of noise when played louder than mezzo forte. Before I call a technician, has anyone out there an idea what could be causing it? I'd like to sound like I have a clue when I call him, even though this message is cast-iron proof that I don't.

Likely damper-wire too close to string.

Tuner can easily sort, but don't attempt it yourself!

My piano did this and it was caused by a pencil lying on the strings. Twang. Just a thought
