Awhile back I wrote to this forum about THE CRAFT OF PIANO PLAYING, a book by Canadian pianist Alan Fraser that has now been made into a DVD. I am happy to say that there's a demo version of the film now online; you can check it out for yourselves at

I am very interested to hear what others think about this film, I myself think it's great.
Some people have asked what is new about Alan Fraser's approach, and I guess I would say that he uses a new language, a new way of describing what goes on in the body when we play, even if he actually says nothing "new", that is, he doesn't show anything that is not already done by those who can really play piano. But most of us mere mortals don't play at that level – Alan shows us how to acquire some of those skills by better understanding the actual structure and function of the physical piano playing mechanism. And his way of showing all this is really personable, immediate, and done in such a way that even non-pianists are fascinated to see the inner workings of piano technique brought so clearly to light.
