Moving pianos

Post by KateP »

Am moving a piano from Sheffield to Manchester and having been quoted Ł200.00 - Ł300.00 for part-load removal have found a van to hire and a firm that hires piano trolleys. Question is - how best to store the piano/fix it in van as will be travelling over the Penines!

The van should have transport hooks on the side, either a few round hooks or a strip. You can either rope it in if your good with knots or buy a rachet style strap froma diy place. You can also put a blanket under the castors which stop it from rolling. Don't forget to put some pillows/blankets behind the piano so it will not rub the sides of the van and the back of the piano. And put blankets under the strapping to stop damage to the casework. If the van is a tail lift, your ok, if its a standard van, roll the piano to the edge, tilt the piano so the castors are on the floor of the van, and left the other end and push!!!!
Good luck.
A funny story was when a women and her female friends were going up to London to pick up a Grand piano 6 foot that she had bought on ebay. No Shoe! No wheels! and a horse box !!! now, I should have asked to come up and film it, I would have been Ł250 richer!!
