Allison upright piano

I have just inherited the family piano and I was looking for some more information about it. It's an Allison upright piano, weighs a tonne and plays beautifully. It was inexpertedly semi-dismantled, lugged down from my parents upstairs back bedroom by me and some friends, put in the back of a transit and driven 40 miles but hasn't lost its tuning at all!

I found what I think is the serial number at the back of the second from lowest key (an attempt has been made to stamp it on the lowest key too, but this is quite faint). Would anyone be kind enough to confirm whether this is the right place to find it?

My mum thought it was probably a 1940s design but according to http://www.pianos.co.uk/info/pianos/a/allison.php, the serial number I found (which is 26309) dates it at 1898.

If anyone could point me to any other sources of information about Allison upright pianos I'd be really grateful. I'd also be intrigued to know what wood it is made out of.

My guess is somewhere between the 1920s and 1950s, the keys are not the place to look for serial numbers. You can normally find them just by opening the top, but it isn't always that easy. See the Numbers and Datemarks pages at the link below. The pictures are too low resolution to show much, you could email some better ones to me, especially interior details.
