Lyon & Hall upright history

Post by mommyohs »

I have an old 85 key Lyon & Hall English upright that my parents bought in 1969 refurbished and I have never really known much about this family piano. After extensive internet searching, I am coming up empty handed. The only markings on the piano are as follows:

The Premier Pianoforte Co. London
Sole Agents Lyon & Hall, Brighton & Hove
L&H 5653 engraved into the frame
2293 imprinted on the sound board under the iron frame.

Does anyone have any clues as to where I might find out more information? I have searched this site to no avail also.
Thank you!

Premier Pianoforte Co.

85 notes was the normal arrangement in British pianos for a very long period, up to the 1960s. The piano appears to have been made by the Premier Pianoforte Co., and sold by Lyon & Hall. I will see what I can find out for you. If you would like to email photos to me, that would help. See also
