Bechstein 118 or Petrof V1 Grand ?
Post by Medartmelodies »
I am looking to buy a new piano for teaching and have been pointed in the direction of the above. Can anyone give me advice as to which would be the better instrument for:- fairly heavy usage; sound; value keeping. The Petrof V1 is a new model, but I can't seem to find any information on it; has anyone tried it? If there is a better instrument to buy for teaching - and personal playing, I like a mellow sound - what recommendations could be made.
Hope you can help, thanks.

The Bechstein 118 will be marginally the better investment but hell of an expensive thing for what it is.
Why not swallow your pride and get a Zimmermann Z2 which is built in the same factory. 85% of the piano at 50% of the price. The Zimmermann brand is rapidly losing its cheap communist image now that the Bechstein name is being stuck on the instruments in more noticeable places! Open up the cabinet and there's even a huge Bechstein logo with an apologetically small Zimmermann label round the edge of it. I think that Bechstein have finally realised that their own range is simply overpriced and they're pricing the Zimm exactly right, leaving the Vain and the Wealthy the only sectors of the piano-buying public to bother with a Bechstein badged piano!
Not seen a Petrof VI, but if previous form is to be followed, it'll just be a rehash of another of their grim old Eatern-Bloc designs.... Or it could be Chinese, in which case it'll be miles better!

Thanks for some suggestions PG. I don't know the Zimmermann, only for being a cheap piano that has been best to avoid. I shall make some enquiries and try some out. You are right about the Bechstein being expensive, but the shop were keen to push the kudos that it would bring. They are an honest and helpful shop, but deal mainly in Bechsteins and Petrofs. I don't want to hurt their feelings.
