Heavy handed!

Post by rsk »

I just started playing (trying at least) again after many years. I´ve found I´m very heavy-handed with my left hand (I´m right-handed) and find it difficult to play softly without missing altogether.

I´m practising scales to try to strengthen my fingers - is there anything else I can do to improve this?

Thanks

Try playing hands separately very slowly - and I'm talking about one note per second - and thinking about every note. You could also try playing only five notes, up and down until you get the sound you like. Another technique is to record yourself playing; it's amazing how that little bit of distance between you and your performance gives you the ability to criticise without bias!
