Kemble piano
Hi, I am the owner of a Kemble piano and I am trying to trace the age, however can not find anything! The Piano has "Kemble London" written on the underside of the lid and on the left it says "Tanner Bros" and on the right is says "warrington". The serial number (or ref number) on the iron frame at the bottom is 704198. The piano is in perfect condition and i was wondering if you could assist with a definite identification? Many thanks.

I think you have already identified it, a Kemble piano sold by Tanner Brothers, in Warrington Lancashire. 704198 is a registered design number for the iron frame, and doesn't give an exact date, although it mainly appears on pianos made between 1924 and 1940. The serial number, probably preceded by a K, may be on the soundboard, just behind the keyboard at the left end. It may be in the range 30,000 to 70,000. See also

If the backcloth is removed, there may be a paper label there giving the date.
