Piano books for beginners?

Post by *Em* »

After many years of wanting to learn to play I've just bought a second hand piano. I would like to teach myself how to play, at least to begin with, I may eventually get lessons from a teacher. My question is, can anybody recommend what books are best to learn from? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Em :)

For someone teaching themselves, I always recommend the Complete Piano Player by Kenneth Baker; it uses songs you know, doesn't go too fast (or too slow if you're a cleverclogs) and doesn't talk down to you.
That said, I'm behind the drag curve a bit when it comes to piano books - ask in the music shop, but make it clear that you're teaching yourself, as most beginner books are aimed at pupil/teacher combinations. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, I shall have a look around for that book, will also pop down to the music shop, see what they recommend.
