I have a Cons & Cons piano that I would like to know at least an idea of when it was made. It is an upright, very pretty, terribly out of tune. The serial # is 3162. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Frederick Cons was in at the beginning of Brinsmead's firm, in the 1830s, but Cons & Cons seem to have been around from the 1860s to 1890, when their factory burned down. They continued as Cons Brothers, and by 1908, they were Cons & Cons Ltd. No dates of serial numbers are published. The design suggests something around 1895, give or take ten years. The Salisbury retailer's transfer was stuck over the top edge of Cons & Cons' transfer. See

Thank you for your help. This is basically a (very beautiful) piece of furniture, as it is terribly out of tune, and has three strikers broken and the action broken on two keys, but it is nice to have some idea of it's origin. ...Not bad for free!
