For best value go for a Yamaha C110 or a nearly as good Kawai KX10.

For cheap, anything from the Yantai Perzina factory.

A s/h U1 in that price bracket will de a dog.

Hello,

Perzina cheaper than Yamaha C110? That would be a very interesting thing to see indeed. Do you have any idea who stocks them here in the south east?

Thanks,

Yantai-Perzina brand names in that price bracket include Eavestaff,
Gehr. Steinberg and Carl Ebel.
Perzina badged instruments (have you been looking on the US sites then?) will be more expensive. All are excellent for the price, 100% reliable in build quality and will give the C110 a run for VFM.

I will track down the Yantai-Perzina rep for the S-E and give you a recommendation, but I know that Markson's in London are dealers. Bear with me!

Thanks PianoGuy.

Incidentally I just found a dealer who has a few Gehrhardt(?) Steinbergs, Arthur Lord in Chobham, Surrey. Very nice and helpful people. Actually they only have 2 of them, an 108 - 110 console (not sure), not worse than a C110 I'd say (I'm not very knowledgeable), a bit more expensive. But the big one (I don't know the exact size, no taller than 121 I think) was absolutely great, unbelievable. A strong round, gathered sound, full bass, no stray harmonics (you know, the ones you hear on the smaller/cheaper pianos? that make you look around, see if anyone dropped a coin?) it was literally filling the room (the warehouse in this case). Equalled only by the price tag, it began with a 6, I don't know the figures that followed as my interest suddenly dropped. So much for cheap... but great sound.

No Gehr.Steinberg costs that much!!!!
Sure it wasn't a Wilh.Steinberg? They're German and have a little "IQ" symbol on one of the lower key fronts.

My contact at Perzina recommends Hanna pianos in Wimbledon. I know Mr.Hanna of old. He's a pretty good technician and does much to encourage the trade's newcomers. An all-round good bloke. 0208 540 5541

And also:
Chandler's of Rye: 01797 223147
Bonner's, Eastbourne: 01323 639335

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the phone numbers, I am going to try them.

The price seemed a bit unusual to me too, so I called them back and they apologised, they mixed things up and gave me the price of the grand (!), anyway: Ł2250 and the model was 120 cm high. With the usual 5 years warranty and first tuning free. I think that's a very, very good deal.

Best regards,

Iulian
