split keys

one of my keys on my upright piano, has a split in back behind the weight.Can I glue this with hide glue and clamp it?

Yes best glue to use for that job

There are metal sleeves available to fix this problem properly.

They look very useful for a normal split on the balance but I don’t think they would be much use at the end of the key on most pianos where the leads have swollen, as there would be no room to fit them
