Need help with choosing a new piano!

Post by Jennie »

I've finally been allowed to break away from my didgital piano and choose an acoustic one! Unfortuantely, I don't have much knowledge about the different brands, particulary regarding tone, playability (if that's the right word) and value (it will have to be second hand :( ). Any advice would be really apperciated! :? Jennie.

Umm... probably in the region of about £1000-£2000, with luck, but almost definately no more as i'm the only one in the family who plays.

Well most of the new 110 range of pianos by most of the popular makes comes in to that price range just but having played a Digital you may be disappointed in the Bass something like the Hermann 122 would give you a better bass but the action would not be as good as say a Kemble Kawai or Yamaha

£2500 would get you a very nice second hand piano in the Pro range of a Kawai or Yamaha depending on the dealer

Thanks Barrie. that was really helpful. I quite like the Yamaha U3, but would prefer something with a more mellow tone. Any suggestions?

Kawai are a little softer in tone but any good tuner/tec can tone down a U3 to your requirement always best done in the home with the main player present
