Collard and Collard

Post by Seaholly »

We have a good looking but sadly not very playable Collard and Collard which is now a white elephant. We no longer want to give it house room and would prefer to replace with a better quality instrument but don't want to junk such a beautiful piano. Does anyone know if there is a market for it? I was told by a piano tuner in London several years ago to contact him if I was ever considering parting with it as it was in unusually good condition (I now wish I had but have lost his card!). Pictures available. Rosewood (I think), straight strung upright with ornate fretwork to front. Visible serial numbers are: inner wooden frame marked C Duras, Verdun and stamped in two separate places as 848. The number 101749 written under the 848 at the top of the frame.

Are you in London now? It is difficult to say much without seeing it, but if you could email photos to me it would help. It could be around 1876, and unfortunately, although I am endlessly fascinated by victorian pianos, there is very little market for them in the UK. Type JUST the word pianogen into your internet address bar.

We have just returned from holday hence late reply. We gave the piano away just before leaving to someone who tells me there is a good market for them in Italy as cocktail cabinets! At least someone will give it an appreciative look before reaching for the Limoncello. Thank you for your feedback.
