Does anybody know how much a Fender Rhodes is??

Post by village »

Does anybody out there know how much Fender Rhodes pianos go for and where I can get hold of one? I'm after the original 60s/70s stage piano with chrome legs that comes in it's own case, can anyone help? Many thanks....

They're always coming up on eBay, so take your pick.

Go for a round-topped one rather than the later flat top, especially if you're buying a Suitcase version. The Suitcase models have vibrato and their own amplifier and speakers, but they're cumbersome. Later Suitcases are identifiable by slider controls rather than rotaries. Avoid these versions unless dirt cheap, as they don't produce the authentic Rhodes vibrato.

The Stage Piano has no amplification and needs no power supply, you just plug it into a guitar amp and off you go. A Stage 73 should cost no more than GBP700 in good nick, and the Suitcase a touch more. A stage 88 can be found from about GBP800.

The Stage models are easy to service and tuning can be done with practice. All spares are obtainable. If you want a superbly restored one, Cravendale Electronics or Music Control will sell you a beauty, but they'll be *much* more expensive.

Have fun!!
