The Condition of Soundboards in Used Pianos

Post by Astrid »

How can the condition of the sounboard be determined in used pianos and in particular in older pianos? I am thinking of buying a re-conditioned Bosendorfer but I know nothing much about the technicalities of pianos.

Any comments or suggestions please :?:

You can look for the obvious like cracks in the soundboard and in the bridges not so easy on an upright but if the pianos have been restored then they should have been fixed

The main thing is the tone and the sustain around the bass treble brakes this is where there is a gap in the string where the iron frame passes passed bridge or in the case of the bass the end of the bridge

Your best bet if to get an independent tuner but in your case if I remember there is only one tuner in Malta the last time I visited
