Does anybody know about Newman & Son, Newport, Gwent. I have an upright rosewood piano with candalabras serial number 43317, written in pencil inside are tuning dates - first tuned in July 1908 etc. I cannot find out anything about this company. I have had this piano for approx. 6 years and bought it from a friend who had it for approx. 10 years.

They were in Newport by the 1880s, were a limited company by 1914, but disappeared after that war. Did you email me before?

I have posted a message before (but it seemed to disappear from the screen and I did not receive any replies) but have not emailed you before. Thank you very much for the information. I plan to move house soon so need to find a new home for this piano (my daughter does not want to learn to play anymore). Is it likely that this piano would be worth anything? as I would not like to offer it for free to anybody if it has any great value. Thank you for any help that you may be able to offer with this question.

I can't judge without seeing it. I can compile a report from photos, but you need a tuners's report on the spot. If you are in East Anglia I can do that.
