Location of serial number - Phillips, Cambridge & Co upright

Post by Miles »

Hello everyone,

Can anyone assist with my search for the serial number of a Phillips, Cambridge & Co upright please? I've looked in all the usual places including on top and bottom keys and hammers but to no avail.

I am trying to date it and thereby estimate value but given that it was sold by J.T. Forbes of Dundee that would most likely be between 1886 and the mid/late 1930s when that firm was in business before moving on to making bag-pipes I think.

I'd be most appreciative if anyone can reveal the 'secret' location!

Some images are attached in case they pique anyone's interest.

Cheers

Miles

The serial number, if there is one, may be on the soundboard or on the keybed or the keys; quite often, retailers used to remove them if they weren't stamped in.

Cambridge & Co. was established in 1902. in NY however the one you have is a stencil piano so probably won't have a serial number. The name on the form was probably the name of the shop that bought the Pianos and had that name put on it still goes on today
