Hello all
I’m looking to buy a vintage piano for decoration and my son to play, as he is learning fast.
I’m here in Dordogne, France.
Looking online there are plants of pianos for sale but one is nearby and struck me as a good option as it’s portrayed as a good deal and in good condition.
It’s a little more than I’d like to pay and more than most other Erards but I’d like to know of it has any interesting history and what it might me worth.
I’m going to see it in person on Saturday so would like to know what to look for in advance, please.
Here are the photos I have for now.

DRASTIC PRICE REDUCTION.
For Sale.
Our Erard of Paris grand piano is in the Louis XV1 style. The case is covered in magnificent marquetry. It is dated 1901 and measures
6 feet 11 and a half inches (212cm) long and 139cms (4 feet seven inches wide). Its lovely Edwardian stool is included.
Whether placed in a modern property or a period property, cottage or Chateau, this imposing piano will make a statement. For its age it is in truly stunning condition throughout. A lovely instrument and a stunning piece of furniture that will
truly enhance wherever it is placed.
To find a piano of this quality and in this condition is extremely rare and will give the next owners much pride and
pleasure. It has been played and tuned regulary.
Attached are a few photographs of the piano for your consideration.
The piano has just been voiced and the complete action serviced.

The casework looks very nice and no doubt this piano would grace any sizeable room as a piece of furniture. The date of 1901 is reasonably accurate according to Taylor's Piano Atlas. I would however be concerned if this piano is suitable for a learner and would recommend that its condition is thoroughly checked by a local piano technician.

It's a straight strong, under-damper with fork Hammers, and the dampers have Vellum hinges. if this piano has an untouched original action, it will be a money pit for you.
I've restored a few of these over the years, and they're a nightmare. The hammers have to be recovered, not replaced. The dampers are challenging to regulate a lot of patience it's more of a job of love than profit.
Pianos of that age are more pretty boxes with strings in, than actually a musical instrument.
