My childhood piano
Post by Katiejessie »
I would like to know more about a small upright piano I have owned since I was a child. I’ve done some research and I think it’s a Monington and Weston piano. The serial number is 7034. I have just had it tuned and been told it’s in great condition. I’m keen to find out the maker and work out how old it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attached photos. Thank you

Is there no name at all on the piano?
The style is a bit like the Jacobean models of the twenties, but the inside looks older. See my Edwardian page...

Is it possible to have more of a front view?
Can I ask how you arrived at the idea that it is a Monington & Weston? They had 2 separate sets of serial numbers, but I haven't seen anything like 7034 or 7304.
If you want to search inside the piano for clues, have a look at

Thanks Bill. No, no name at all. We purchased it in 1983 and the receipt doesn’t even have the makers name. Have attached more photos. Sorry the first photos were not great. I’ve done some internet research and found photos of Monington and Weston pianos that have the same decorations on the front. Thank you for the links. Will use them to do some more research.

A Monington & Weston would usually have a serial number visible when you lift the top. Another is hidden away on the soundboard, probably inside the bottom. Both would be 5 digits, but quite different.

Only serial number is the 4 digit one found top left under top lid. I’m thinking it may be a combination of two pianos. It will continue to be a mystery.
